HAPPY 23 APRIL NATIONAL SOVEREIGN AND CHILDREN'S DAY
This holiday was celebrated on April 23, which was celebrated in the first year of the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, and after the abolition of the sultanate on November 1, 1922, it was first accepted as November 1, then joined with the April 23 National Day in 1935. It was formed by the spontaneous merger of the 23 April Children's Day, which was declared by the Etfal Society in 1927 and the first of which was organized under the auspices of Atatürk.
During the 1980 coup, the National Security Council officially named this holiday "23 April National Sovereignty and Children's Day".
While the National Domination Day (previously 1 November, then 23 April) was intended to celebrate the abolition of the sultanate and the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, which established the Republic of Turkey, the sovereignty was taken from the sultan and given to the people, Children's Day is a spring festival for poor children who were orphaned during the war. It was intended to please the environment.
After UNESCO announced 1979 as the Year of the Child, the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation launched the TRT International April 23 Children's Festival, bringing the holiday to the international level.
